Qld: Beacon draws rescuers to abandonted yacht

A yacht abandoned off the New South Wales north coast last month has been found offthe Queensland coast.

Australian Search and Rescue Coordination Centre spokesman BEN MITCHELL says an aircraftwas sent from Brisbane early today to follow up signals from a rescue beacon.

It's found the hull of the abandoned catamaran Eroica near Hervey Bay.

The skipper of the Vanuatu-registered Eroica abandoned his vessel 800km off Byron Bayearly last month in strong winds and high seas.

Two crewmen were picked up by a New Zealand cargo vessel and the skipper, who initiallyrefused to leave, was later plucked from a life raft by another ship.
